Hello, I’m Krystyna, the Founder of Parkminster, and I’ve been lovingly crafting hand-blended, made-to-order home fragrances for almost 16 years here at Parkminster. One of my favourite scents is, of course, Lavender. There’s something so special about its gentle, calming aroma, and I want to share a little about why it’s been cherished for relaxation, emotional wellbeing, and comfort for generations.
Lavender has a long history of use for wellbeing. The Romans famously added Lavender
to their baths, using it to scent the water, relax the body, and promote calmness. It was also carried in small pouches or sprinkled on floors to freshen rooms and encourage a sense of tranquility. Over the centuries, people across Europe have turned to Lavender essential oil and dried Lavender flowers for relaxation, sleep support, and gentle mood-lifting effects — a tradition that continues today.
Research and expert guidance from trusted UK sources show just how versatile and
soothing Lavender essential oil can be. The NHS South Thames Aromatherapy Guidance says, “Aromatherapy using essential oils such as Lavender can help promote relaxation, relieve stress, and support calmness when inhaled or used in massage.” I love knowing that something as simple as scent can have such a positive effect on our mood and sense of calm.
For those expecting a little one, the Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Trust notes, “Lavender essential oil can be safely used in labour to reduce anxiety and promote a
sense of relaxation, provided it is applied appropriately.” I’ve always enjoyed creating our Lavender candles and room mists with this in mind, offering gentle comfort and relaxation wherever they’re used.
Even for those living with cognitive conditions, Dementia UK shares, “Aromatherapy,
including the use of Lavender essential oil, may help create a calming environment, reduce agitation, and enhance a sense of comfort,” while Alzheimer’s Society UK adds, “Lavender massage or inhalation can be soothing and help improve mood, although it should always be part of a broader care plan.” And the MS Trust UK reminds us that “Aromatherapy using essential oils such as Lavender may promote relaxation, reduce anxiety, and support wellbeing, although evidence is still developing.”
When I blend our Lavender candles, reed diffusers, room mists and bath salts, each one is made just for you, by hand, and with 100% Lavender essential oil. I even add a small sticker with the blend date and your name — a little personal touch to celebrate the care and craftsmanship that goes into each item.
I hope that knowing a little more about the history, traditions, and science behind Lavender makes your Parkminster experience even more special. Every product is crafted to bring a sense of calm, relaxation, and gentle wellbeing into your home, exactly as I imagined when I first began this journey.
With warm
wishes,
Krystyna
