Candle Care & Safety

At Parkminster, we craft all our candles with natural, plant-based soy wax, using carefully blended essential oils for long-lasting fragrance. To ensure the best burn performance and safety in your home, it’s important to follow some simple practices, whether you’re using votive candles, tin candles, apothecary jars, or HÆFEN candles. Proper candle care not only extends the life of your candle but also helps maintain a clean, safe, and enjoyable environment.

General Candle Safety Guidelines

  • ALWAYS burn candles in a suitable container — NEVER outside of a vessel, especially for candle refills.

  • Place candles on a HEAT-RESISTANT SURFACE, away from DRAUGHTS, CURTAINS, OR FLAMMABLE OBJECTS.

  • NEVER leave a burning candle UNATTENDED.

  • KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN AND PETS.

  • Ensure ROOM VENTILATION for a pleasant fragrance without smoke build-up.

Wick Maintenance & Burn Tips

  • TRIM WICKS TO 5 MM (¼ INCH) before each burn to ensure a steady flame and reduce soot.

  • Burn candles for at least 1 HOUR at a time, allowing the wax to melt fully to the edges to prevent tunneling.

  • Keep the wax pool free of MATCHES, WICK TRIMMINGS, OR DEBRIS.

  • If a candle wick begins to smoke, EXTINGUISH THE FLAME, allow the wax to cool and set, TRIM THE WICK, then relight. NEVER TRIM A BURNING CANDLE.

  • EXTINGUISH CANDLES when only a small amount of wax remains; burning to the very bottom can cause uneven flames or soot buildup.

Parkminster Candle Type-Specific Notes

Votive Candles (Small & Large):

  • Designed for SMALLER OR MEDIUM-SIZED ROOMS, these candles offer consistent burn and fragrance when used in their containers.

  • Small votives burn approximately 15+ HOURS; large votives burn approximately 40–50+ HOURS.

HÆFEN Candles:

  • Suitable for MEDIUM AND LARGE ROOMS.

  • The LINEAR RIBBED GLASSWARE enhances the flicker and fragrance throw.

  • NEVER BURN OUTSIDE THE CONTAINER. Refills are available for eco-conscious reuse.

Apothecary Jar Candles:

  • Made for longer burns of UP TO 35 HOURS in medium or large spaces.

  • ALWAYS allow the wax to fully melt on the first burn to prevent tunneling.

Tin Candles:

  • Aluminum tins conduct heat efficiently, so the BASE CAN GET HOTTER THAN GLASS CONTAINERS.

  • NEVER BURN FOR TOO LONG AT ONCE, and ALWAYS PLACE ON A COASTER OR HEAT-RESISTANT SURFACE to protect vulnerable surfaces like wood.

Tips for Longer Life & Best Fragrance

  • Let the WAX POOL reach the edges each time to promote even burning.

  • Store UNUSED CANDLES in a cool, dry place away from sunlight to preserve fragrance integrity.

  • For CANDLE REFILLS, extra fragrance oil is included to compensate for the wax being exposed on all sides; ALWAYS BURN INSIDE A CONTAINER.

  • Following these steps ensures CONSISTENT FRAGRANCE, LONGER BURN TIMES, and a SAFER CANDLE EXPERIENCE.
