Handcrafted Soy Candles: Sustainable Quality and Process
All Parkminster candles are crafted from plant-grown soy wax and natural fragrances, using low-impact, hand-poured methods in our Fragrance Workshop. Each candle is made to order, ensuring freshness, consistency of scent, and minimal environmental impact.
Because we follow traditional, sustainable practices, you may notice subtle natural variations in the wax, such as small gaps between the wax and glass or a delicate frosted surface. These are normal traits of hand-crafted soy wax and do not affect fragrance, burn time, or overall quality. Unlike mass-produced candles, we do not preheat glassware or artificially raise workshop temperatures, keeping our process gentle on both the environment and the wax.
Using soy wax rather than paraffin supports sustainability: soy is renewable, biodegradable, and burns cooler with minimal soot, whereas paraffin is petroleum-based and non-biodegradable. This plant-based approach aligns with our commitment to eco-conscious candle making.
Each candle reflects careful attention at every stage of production, combining artisan craftsmanship with responsible materials—ensuring that your candle is not only a source of fragrance but also a product made with the planet in mind.

CAUTION: Working with hot, flammable materials requires care and attention. Please read through all safety notes before you begin.
- Protect your work surfaces with newspaper or a heat-resistant mat and wear an apron or old clothes.
- Clear up any spills immediately to avoid damage to surfaces.
- Familiarise yourself with the hazards of the materials before starting.
- Handle all glassware carefully — it can become very hot and may break if dropped.
Your Kit Contains:
- 2 × Soy Wax Flakes (70 g℮ each)
- Essential Oil / Fragrance Oil 14 ml (2 × 7 ml)
- 2 × Candle Glasses with Wicks
- 1 × Stirrer
You Will Also Need:
- Large saucepan
- Heat-resistant jug (not one used for food)
- Spoon for stirring
- Scissors
- Tea towel
Making Your Candles
- Prepare a water bath: Half-fill a large saucepan with water and place over medium heat. Once boiling, reduce to a simmer. Never leave unattended.
- Melt the wax: Place the soy wax flakes into a heat-resistant jug — one box per candle or both boxes for two. Immerse the jug carefully in the simmering water. Stir occasionally. Keep an eye on the saucepan to ensure it doesn’t boil dry.
- Check the wax: The wax is fully melted when it turns clear. Stir thoroughly to remove any lumps — these can affect even burning.
- Position the wick: Place a wick in the centre of the glass jar. Make sure it does not sag. You can adjust it gently while the wax is cooling but do not pull the wick out.
- Add fragrance: Mix the fragrance oil into the molten wax using the spoon until fully incorporated. Use one bottle per candle.
- Pour the wax: Carefully pour the molten wax into the glass. Pour slowly and keep the jug close to the glass to minimise air bubbles. Tap the glass gently to release trapped air.
- Top up if needed: Wax will shrink as it cools, possibly forming a well around the wick. Use a pin to prick small holes around the wick, remelt leftover wax, and pour carefully to fill. Wrapping a tea towel around the glass can slow cooling and prevent pulling away from the sides.
- Avoid overfilling: Leave at least 1 cm from the top of the glass to allow for safe burning.
- Cool completely: Let the candle cool for at least 8 hours.
- Trim the wick: Cut the wick to 5 mm above the wax and remove any wick trimmings or wick bar.
- Your candle is ready: Place on a heat-resistant surface and keep away from draughts, children, and pets when burning. Never leave a burning candle unattended.
Safety Reminders for All Candles
- Always burn candles in a suitable container and on a heat-resistant surface.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets.
- Ensure good ventilation for a pleasant fragrance without smoke.
- Do not burn candles too close to curtains, fabrics, or flammable surfaces.
