How Our Candle Refills Are Made
Parkminster candle refills are made in the same way as our full candles, using the same plant-grown materials, fragrance blends, and low-impact production methods. Each refill is poured by hand in our Fragrance Workshop using an exclusive blend of plant-grown soy waxes chosen for their clean burn, scent throw, and renewable origins.
Soy wax behaves differently from paraffin and other petroleum-based waxes. It burns at a lower temperature, sets more slowly, and requires careful control during pouring. For our candle refills, the wax and fragrance are blended 'to order' before being poured in a single, uninterrupted pour. Each refill is then left to cool and set naturally for at least 24 hours, allowing the wax to contract slightly as it releases from the mould. This slow setting process helps maintain consistent burn performance once the refill is placed inside its container.
Because candle refills are exposed to air on all sides, we adjust our fragrance formulation to ensure the finished refill retains its scent over time. This means adding additional fragrance oil during blending to compensate for natural evaporation, without compromising burn quality or balance. The result is a refill that performs in the same way as a container candle when burned correctly inside a suitable glass jar.
Sustainability is central to why we offer candle refills. Reusing your existing glassware reduces waste, avoids unnecessary packaging, and supports a more circular approach to home fragrance. Our refills are made without plastic, using only plant-based wax and carefully sourced fragrance oils. Every stage of the process reflects our commitment to small-batch production, traditional candle-making methods, and a naturally sustainable alternative to mass-produced home fragrance.
Candle Refill Usage & Safety Information
To enjoy your Parkminster soy wax candle refills safely and effectively, they must always be burned inside a suitable candle container and never used on their own. Once placed in a vessel, good candle care helps maximise fragrance performance, burn time, and safety.
• Always begin with a long first burn. Light your candle refill for at least one hour so the wax melts fully across the surface of the container, helping prevent tunnelling and uneven burning.
• Trim the wick to approximately 5 mm (¼ inch) before every burn to maintain a steady flame and reduce smoke or soot.
• Keep the melted wax clear of debris such as wick trimmings, matches, or dust, as these can interfere with the burn.
• If the flame begins to smoke or flicker excessively, extinguish the candle, allow the wax to cool and harden, trim the wick, and then relight. Never attempt to trim a wick while the candle is burning.
• Place your candle refill on a heat-resistant surface, away from draughts, and never leave it unattended while lit.
• For the cleanest finish, stop burning when only a small amount of wax remains. Burning right to the base can cause overheating, soot, or unstable flames as the wick reaches the container.
Following these care guidelines helps ensure your soy wax candle refill burns evenly, releases fragrance consistently, and provides a safer, longer-lasting experience in your home.
In the event that your candle wick starts to smoke, extinguish your candle, allow the wax to cool and set, trim it, and then relight it – never trim a burning candle.
Safety first. Don’t leave a flame unattended and make sure it is kept out of drafts.
For a clean and even burn, extinguish your candle when only a small amount of wax remains. Burning it to the very end can cause soot and uneven flames as the wick gets too close to the container
