The Inspiration Behind the Apothecary Style
The Parkminster Apothecary Collection is rooted in a long-standing appreciation for the clean lines and purposeful labelling of traditional chemist and apothecary bottles. These objects were never designed as decoration — they were practical vessels created to communicate clearly and function reliably. That simplicity is what continues to make them visually striking today.
Part of our inspiration came quite literally from the ground. While working in the garden of our 16th-century cottage, we uncovered fragments of old pill and medicine bottles — small reminders of how everyday glassware once carried both beauty and utility. Their shapes, proportions, and understated labels helped shape the aesthetic direction of this collection.
Another influence comes from a chemist’s shop in the Hampshire village of Stockbridge. Its window displays a carefully preserved collection of vintage medicine bottles, soap packaging, and bandage boxes — all marked with simple, effective typography that feels timeless. That balance of clarity, honesty, and style mirrors the visual language we use across the Apothecary range.
The result is a diffuser vessel that feels familiar and grounded — inspired by real objects with real history — while fitting naturally into modern interiors. It’s a quiet nod to craftsmanship, utility, and the enduring appeal of well-considered design.
