The Story Behind Our Fragrances: Natural, Exclusive & Designed for Living Simply
When I talk to people about our fragrances, I always start with home. Our garden in Cornwall sits on a hillside just a mile from the Atlantic Ocean. The sea breezes drift through the grass and hedgerows, carrying a hint of ozone that inspires our fresh, uplifting scents — the kind you notice immediately when you light a candle or refresh a room with a mist.
Around the garden, grassy meadows sway in the wind, spilling wildflowers everywhere. Walking through them, I notice the subtle complexity of each bloom, and that’s exactly the effect I want in our floral fragrances: gentle, layered, natural, never cloying.
Our woods frame the garden, and through them runs a small stream, tinkling softly over stones. The combination of earth, leaves, and water informs our woody, green, and herbal blends, bringing a grounding, calming quality to our diffusers, candles, and bath salts.
Even our conservatory adds its own inspiration. Lemons and small oranges rarely thrive fully, but when they bloom, the orange blossom scent drifts lightly through the air. It reminds me that fragrance is about capturing the essence of a place, not just a single ingredient.
And then there’s the herb garden — strong rosemary, thyme, and lavender grow stubbornly among granite rocks, resisting the wind, their scents sharp and clean. These influences shape our herbal fragrances, bringing freshness and clarity without overpowering.
We use essential oils wherever possible, for their subtlety and natural complexity. Only when environmental or safety concerns arise — like grapefruit essential oil, which has a low flash point — do we blend in high-quality natural fragrance oils. Every fragrance is hand-blended to order, so each candle, reed diffuser, room mist, or bath salt carries a little piece of our hillside garden.
For me, that’s what makes Parkminster fragrances different: they are slow, natural, calm, and alive, just like the world around us.
