Where to Place Scented Candles: Tips From a Fragrance Creator

Hello, I’m Krystyna — I’ve been hand-blending natural home fragrance here at Parkminster Home Fragrance Co. for over 15 years. Whether I’m pouring soy wax candles in our Fragrance Workshop or layering notes for a new seasonal scent, I’m always thinking about how fragrance works in a real home.

Our natural scented candles and reed diffusers are designed to help you create a beautifully aromatic, comforting space — but where you place them really does make a difference. Here’s my tried-and-tested advice on how to get the most from your home fragrance.

Best Places to Burn Scented Candles in Your Home

There’s no absolute rule on where to put your candles — but after years of making and testing them in homes, shops, and studios, these are the rooms I always recommend:

1. The Bedroom – Calm, Comfort and Romance

Your bedroom is your sanctuary. I always suggest placing a candle on a bedside table or a dressing table where the scent can gently diffuse as you wind down.

2. The Bathroom – Spa Vibes at Home

Nothing transforms a bathroom quite like scent. Picture this: a warm bath, low lights, and a natural soy candle flickering beside you.

Candlelight reflects beautifully on tiles and mirrors, creating a spa-like glow with minimal effort.

How Fragrance Affects Your Mood

One of the things I love most about working with scent is its emotional power. A fresh-smelling home isn't just pleasant — it lifts your mood, settles your thoughts, and helps you feel more yourself.

Science backs this up. Our brains link certain smells to memories through what’s called associative learning. That’s why a coconut candle might make you smile — it reminds you of baking with your nan. Or why herbal-scented candles make your house feel clean and calm.

My Favourite Fresh Smelling Home Tips

Want your house to smell beautiful all the time? Here are a few of my insider tricks:

Use Leftover Wax in a Wax Burner

Don’t throw away that last bit of wax! If the wick won’t light anymore, just break up the remaining scented soy wax and melt it in a wax burner. The scent is often even more intense this way.

Let Candles Scent Your Home Even When They’re Not Lit

Place unlit candles next to fabrics like curtains, cushions, or wardrobes — natural fibres absorb the fragrance. It’s a subtle way to keep your home smelling fresh throughout the day. Just remember to move them before lighting!
